nearest and dearest to our hearts.

1. Recognize the difference between hearing and listening

* There is a very distinct difference between hearing and
listening. Hearing is to merely perceive sound.

* Listening is the mindful, conscious act and desire to hear,
comprehend, and response to others.

2. Be willing to listen

* Begin with a commitment to listen – be open minded and
consider other points of view.

* Listen regardless of whether you agree or disagree with

3. Be attentive

from BERNAMA, The Malaysian National News Agency KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 (Bernama) — Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today that he was aware of varsity students engaging in direct selling for additional income and that his ministry would be organising awareness courses on this for them.

He said this was necessary to ensure they understood the risks involved as well as ensuring that their studies were not affected because of direct selling activities.

“When I was in the university, I myself was involved in the Multi- Level Marketing (MLM) business like becoming an Amway distributor to get additional income,” he said when winding up the Direct Selling (Amendment) Bill 2010 in the Dewan Negara.

Earlier, during debate on the bill, Senator Mumtaz Md Nawi had said MLM businesses were also targeting university students which caused them to misuse their student loans for direct selling activities.

She also suggested that the ministry get universities to monitor the matter to avoid students neglecting their studies or dropping out because they could not pay their university fees

TRENTON, N.J. — In a deal worth US$10 billion, Ingersoll-Rand Co. will acquire Trane Inc. and create one of the world’s largest makers of commercial and residential home air conditioners, refrigerators for trucks and stores, and other climate control products.

But some Ingersoll-Rand shareholders, who had expected the cash-rich company to pour some money into share repurchases, seemed disappointed with the acquisition announced Monday and sold Ingersoll-Rand stock, driving shares down sharply.

The $10.1 billion cash and stock deal — one of the largest industrial buyouts in recent years — gives Ingersoll-Rand, which makes Thermo King refrigerated trucks and Hussmann refrigerated display cases, access to Trane’s building and transportation cooling systems.

“What they bought in Trane is a premier position in climate control,” with $11 billion in annual revenues, said industrial manufacturing analyst Eli Lustgarten of Longbow Securities.

That will be nearly two-thirds of the combined company’s expected 2008 revenues of $17 billion.
